The nature of the rocks has an
important influence on the distribution of species, but the relief and climate
largely determine the localisation of large plant groups. It is necessary
therefore to distinguish between the north and centre of the Massif and part of
the south. This is subject to Mediterranean influences which cause species
modifications, terrace limit differences and additional terraces on the southern
slopes.
