The peat bogs are rich environments due to their many characteristics. There are pools of water, dried peat mounds through which heather and bulrushes grow. There is little impact of man, and therefore a multitude of animals can flourish there, such as butterflies and dragonflies inherited from the glacial age. Birds, particularly during the course of migration, find tranquillity, shade and nourishment there. These are woodcock, geese, curlews ducks and lapwings.
