Water became the dominant erosive agent with climate warming. It eroded the slopes of the high volcanic  and granite massif hollowing out more and more ground. Slowly by crumbling, streaming and sliding the sides became steeper, depending on the nature of the rocks. Rivers formed in the glacial beds creating deep gorges.
